Purchasing an individual health insurance for plan year 2015 has now closed. There is a Marketplace exception; this allows those who have not yet purchased individual health insurance coverage in 2015, or you may not have had individual insurance coverage in 2014, and paid the penalty for not having 2014 coverage. The previously mentioned scenarios, qualifies you to apply for insurance on the market place through April 30th, 2015. The next open enrollment for health insurance coverage begins on November 1st 2015 for coverage starting as early as January 1st, 2016.

You may qualify to save money and lower your monthly premium, but only if your employer does not offer coverage, or offers coverage that doesn't meet certain standards. The good news is, depending on your household income, your advance premium tax credit allowance maybe a substantial savings for you and your family.

Certain conditions do apply. If affordable coverage is offered through your employer and meets the “minimum value” standard set by the PPACA, you will not be eligible for a tax credit through the Marketplace, and may wish to enroll in your employer’s health plan. However, if your employer does not offer a health care plan, or has one that doesn't meet the minimum requirements of the law, you may be eligible for the tax credit, or advanced subsidy that lowers your monthly premium.
